Before you hand over your credit card, take your time to consider all flooring options and the benefits and minuses of each flooring.
First of all, what is important for kids’ room flooring?
- Children from the crawling stage (at about 6 to 9 months) to the end of their floor-dwelling years (8 to 10 years) need comfort, warmth, and softness.
- Durability and cleanability also factor into your choice. Scratches, gouges, and dents are routine for kids’ bedroom flooring.
- Kids, too, mean messes. Betting on children not to make a mess on your expensive flooring is one that you are sure to lose.
- Kids make noises. Sound transmits between floors. If a sound-sensitive room such as an office is located below the kid’s bedroom, soundproofing matters a great deal.
And now, what options are available for kids’ room flooring?
Pluses: Soft, comfortable carpet can protect your wobbly baby from bumps and bruises, making it seem like the obvious choice for your new nursery. Minuses: But before you buy, beware. Wall-to-wall carpeting is difficult to clean and can quickly become a haven for dust mites and mould —less than ideal for those suffering from allergies or asthma. What’s more, new carpets often contain VOCs and other toxic chemicals that could make your little one sick.
Pluses: Long-lasting and easy to keep clean, hardwood floors have a classic look that never goes out of style. Although fairly durable, all wood floors are subject to wear and tear—a definite drawback given the cost.
Minuses: But you definitely need more comfortable playing surface to soften your baby’s falls.
Silent Birch Plywood
Silent Birch is applied in floors and walls where sound insulation and vibration elimination is required. The Silent’s cork-rubber core improves sound absorption, damps vibration and deadens noise.
Good visual appearance, easily workable, odor free, easy-to-clean, weather and boiling water proof and resisting commonly used chemicals. High wear resistance and anti-slip properties of the surface. User and environmentally friendly and hygienic.
Minuses: Not as soft as carpet, not as hard as wood.
